In the 23rd ODI of the ongoing 2023 World Cup, played on Tuesday in Mumbai, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 149 runs thanks in large part to an outstanding batting performance by Quinton de Kock. The top order of Bangladesh, which was chasing 383 runs, was immediately shaken by players like Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen. Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, Bangladesh's openers, were taken out by Jansen and Rabada for 12 and 22 runs, respectively. To get rid of Najmul Hossain Shanto for a golden duck, Jansen struck again. Meanwhile, Lizaad Williams easily defeated captain Shakib Al Hasan (1). Mahmudullah, who was batting at position six, turned out to be Bangladesh's lone bright spot in the second innings, smashing his third World Cup century (111 off 111 balls).

However, his contribution wasn't particularly significant because he couldn't find a good partner, and Bangladesh was eventually dismissed for 233 in 46.4 overs. Gerald Coetzee also picked up two wickets, in addition to Jansen's two-wicket haul. In the meanwhile, Lizaad Williams and Kagiso Rabada both claimed two wickets.

In the meantime, South Africa continued to put on a strong performance with the bat and amassed a staggering 382/5 after choosing to bat. Before being caught by Hasan Mahmud, Quinton de Kock scored 174 points from 140 deliveries. Aiden Markram, who received a 60/69, was a huge help to him. Henrich Klaasen, who has had a significant impact on the event, came through once more and scored 90 runs in just 49 balls. After that, David Miller brought the innings to a flawless conclusion and came back unharmed at 34(15).

Reeza Hendricks was dismissed by Shoriful Islam for 12(19), while Rassie van der Dussen was caught by Mehidy Hasan Miraz LBW for 1(7), giving Bangladesh an early advantage.

After helping the Proteas recover, Markram and De Kock combined 131 runs off 137 balls for the third wicket before Markram was dismissed by Shakib for 60 (69). De Kock continued to finish his ton, which was his third of the World Cup.

As they continued to hit boundaries at will at the end, Klaasen and Miller then combined to deal further harm.
